Documents Required to Obtain Portuguese Nationality by Merit
Birth Certificate of the Applicant
Original and legalized/apostilled (if issued outside Portugal).
Sworn translation, if not in Portuguese.

Criminal Background Certificates
Issued by:
The applicant's country of origin.
All countries where the applicant lived after the age of 16.
Portuguese authorities (Judicial Police).
Must be legalized/apostilled and translated if necessary.
Proof of Residence in Portugal (if applicable)
Documents showing the applicant’s stay in Portugal, if the merit or service was provided within the country.
Sworn Statement of Honor
Declaration affirming that the information provided is true.
Photocopy of Valid Identification Document
Passport or equivalent document.
Proof of Payment of Fees
Receipt or proof of payment for administrative fees, which may vary depending on the case.
